Acne Impacts A Lot More Than Your Skin
Acne may be one of the cruelest skin conditions there is. It strikes people in their youth when they are the most psychologically vulnerable. What’s really bad is that it’s such a visible disease.
This condition not only leaves scars on a persons face and body, but it can also scar a person’s psyche. Acne can cause emotional detachment, embarrassment and a feeling of insecurity.

Acne can be most debilitating to a young person who may already have feelings of insecurity to begin with. Some people describe their acne as a very real and monumental problem in their lives.
Even though most people will suffer from acne at sometime in their life, this knowledge is very comforting to the person who is constantly teased about their condition.
One of the psychological impacts of acne may include:
Social withdrawal: Not wanting to be around family and friends so they won’t see their condition.
Low self-esteem: Many people equate how they look with how they feel. A teens self-esteem can really suffer if they feel less attractive then others due to their acne.
Low self-confidence: As self-esteem lowers, so does a person’s self-confidence.
Depression: Quite a few people who suffer from acne may get very depressed due to their condition. Acne by itself may not cause clinical depression but it definitely cause depressed feelings and low mood.
Feelings of frustration and anger: When you’re not happy with yourself, it’s hard to pleased by anyone or anything. This can easily cause a person to have anger towards others and themselves.
Even after the acne is long gone, there may be lingering psychological effects. It’s important to treat acne right away before it worsens to a more severe case. Even though there is no cure for acne, there are many things that can be done to lessen it’s presence.
