Acne Is More Than Just A Simple Case Of Pimples
The Many Forms Of Pimples Acne are generalized as a skin disorder caused by blocked pores, but it actually presents itself in many different ways. The severity of different types of acne lesions varies, but some will cause more lasting effects than others.
Always use common sense when treating acne. Remember that severe acne may require medical attention by a qualified dermatologist. Acne is a very complex problem and there are many words used to describe it.
You have to understand the terminology of acne if you want to have the best chance of treating it effectively.
All acne break outs can be described with the single term of: acne lesion. This includes whiteheads, blackheads, cysts and nodules.
Here are some descriptions of some acne terms. The least severe type of lesion are the comedones. They include whiteheads and blackheads. Comedones are formed when a hair follicle gets plugged up with sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells.
A blackhead is also known as an open comedo. The sebum is clearly visible and discolored. A comedo which is closed is called a whitehead or just a pimple. A whitehead is identifiable by an inflamed and closed pore. Never scratch, pick or open a whitehead as this can lead to scarring and infection.
An elevated and usually small acne lesion is called a papule. They are more visible when in a group. Papules most often don’t have a visible head. Never pick or pop these. This can cause scars.
The dome shaped lesions that are filled with puss are called pustules. These usually don’t leave a scar unless they progress into a cyst. Try not to rupture these while cleaning your face.
Similar to papules, nodules are usually more inflamed and go deep into the skin. These are often very painful and can lead to scaring. For more severe break outs you should always see a dermatologist.
The largest acne lesions are the cysts. These can leave very deep, noticeable scarring if not treated promptly.
Always go to the doctor if you have large cysts or nodules on your skin. These are the hardest to get rid of and you’ll probably need a doctor’s help.
There are quite a few forms of acne. Hopefully, now you know what type you have to you can find the proper treatment.
Acne might be best knows as a simple case of pimples, but in reality, acne can be very complex and may require complex methods of treatment.
